BIOGRAPHY

Rosemary Adjoa Dery is a Ghanaian-born multidisciplinary creative raised in London and based in Cardiff. A passionate advocate for representation and inclusion in the arts, her work spans multiple mediums, consistently championing these themes. In September 2024, she launched a music and media organisation that amplifies emerging artists in Jazz, Alt-Blues, Neo-Soul, Alt-R&B, Ambient-Rap, and Spoken Word. As a Black woman-led initiative, the organisation not only spotlights underrepresented voices but also aims to empower them as decision-makers in the music scene. Rosemary takes a curated and artistic approach to her events and media, creating platforms for diverse talents to thrive.

Alongside her entrepreneurial pursuits, Rosemary serves as a Community Engagement practitioner with NoFit State Community Circus, a Cardiff-based creative organisation. She delivers arts programs that uplift underprivileged communities, including asylum seekers, refugees, and individuals in assisted housing. Through her striking and experimental portraiture for this current project, she challenges conventional media portrayals, focusing on the humanity and creative expression of these often-overlooked groups.

As a mixed-medium fine artist, Rosemary celebrates African heritage and uses her art to address critical social issues affecting the Black community. Her creative portfolio includes collaborations with arts organisations, creatives, content creation, culture commentary, critical writing, and media. A key area of focus is exploring the significant contributions of Black women in the creative media space and their influence on community and culture.

With a strong foundation in Fine Art and Studio Practice—bolstered by four years of academic study and a two-year internship at a contemporary gallery in Northampton—Rosemary's experience spans theatre, performance, and various creative disciplines. She is deeply committed to increasing representation of women from the global majority in the Welsh media landscape, advocating for authentic storytelling led by those with lived experience.

Through initiatives like the I Am Wales Bootcamp, Rosemary continues to expand her influence, striving to create transformative spaces where marginalised voices can reclaim their narratives. Whether through art, community work, or media ventures, Rosemary Adjoa Dery is dedicated to inspiring and empowering others to shape their own stories and spaces.
