RnB artist from Cardiff, talks to Luchia about his career so far!
Interview by: Luchia Ellul Alimikhena
During half term, I got to host my very first radio show on radio Cardiff's weekly show called the BOMB! I am truly following in the foot steps on one of my idols, Aleighcia Scott, who presents her own show on BBC Radio Wales. For those who don't know me, my name is Luchia, and I am 11 years old. I love to sing and started at the age of 4. I have have had the opportunity to preform at events such as Black History Wales, and the Butetown Carnival. I am enjoying school and learning more about the arts, music, producing and interviewing skills. Here are two interviews I did recently with Aleighcia Scott and Lucas Rowe, both amazing Welsh artists!
When you were in High school, how did your peers respond to you performing, was there any jealousy?
No, I had a positive response from my peers, I remember I wrote and performed a song, called 'It's a Hard life' for Corpus Christi Day and it was really at that moment that made me want to pursue music more. That opportunity made me more confident, and I later joined the school choir. My peers and teachers were always supportive.
If you could collaborate with anyone, dead or alive who would it be?
Oh, it would have to be Michael Jackson, he is my idol and another one would be Chris Brown. But there are some great UK artists, like Stormzy. But MJ is no one.
Being an artist, and a family man, how do you manage life?
It is very difficult, but I guess it is about managing and prioritising. You must try to make time for all of what you want and must do, you must find balance. I always make sure that I prioritise my family, first and foremost. But yeah, doing both is hard.
What advice would you give to a young person, who wants to be a music artist?
I would say, just live your life, you can find a story in just going out with your friends. You can write lyrics about the simplest things. At the same time, stay focused and pursue your dreams, make sure it makes sense to you, and share your story.
What has been your biggest WOW moment?
It has to be supporting Shaun Paul, in 2018. Walking out onto the stage, to about 10,000 people was exciting but at the same time, it was a scary moment and to be honest the only time I have ever felt nervous.
What's next for you?
My new single is called, 'You Should Know', and it is produced by Don the Prod. I have an EP coming out in the new year, which is called, 'Kindness for Weakness'. You can hear all of Lucas Rowes music on all good streaming platforms.
How did you start your career?
It all started when I joined expressions of a young kind, with Freejay Williams, first I started singing and then got more into rap. My first performance was at the age of 8.
What is your favourite part of being a performer?
The best thing is when the crowd are singing your lyrics back to you. I had the opportunity to support John Paul, in the Motorpoint arena, and hearing thousands of people singing along to your songs, is mad, but it has encourages me to keep pushing on.
Out of all your song, which is your favourite? I have so many I like, but the one I love to perform is, 'To Take a Chance', because the crowd gets involved and they sing it back, and seem to enjoy it.
