She said, 'attending this event has been very encouraging, as people have been so complimentary of our packaging and scents. It is great to have such positive feedback from other Black owned businesses, and it has been an opportunity to network and meet like minded entrepreneurs'. 'We will be back'!

The founder of The Plain Shop: Ayo Adedeji

The plain shop was founded by Ayo Adedeji who is also the artistic creator, and Emma Rudy who is the illustrator. The idea for the plain shop, came out of the pandemic during a time of quiet contemplation. They both wanted to create a lifestyle brand that was minimalistic, with a focus on simplicity, which encompassed quality and inclusivity. The aim is to build a community that everyone can be a part of to share in a common ethos, ‘it is, what it is’. The full range consists of t-shirts, hoodies, jumpers, hats, and bags. They also have a colouring book and set of playing cards. We spoke to Ayo and asked why he thought events such as the UK Black Business show was important and did it live up to his expectations? He replied, "the UKBBS absolutely lived up to my expectations. I aimed to connect with as many people as possible and gain insight into my products and brand from my community. I also aimed to make as much profit as possible so I can directly redistribute it to hawkers, small business owners and an orphanage in Nigeria. The UKBBS was my opportunity to do that and I was able to do so which was really exciting". He added, "organisations like the UKBBS and Black Pound Day are quintessential to the empowerment of the black community. We are already incredibly culturally impactful but by supporting small businesses, we can grow the black middle class and have a more prosperous and politically influential community as well"

Founder of Rum Vibes, Tamo Carter

Jamaican Rum Vibes was founded by Tamo Carter, who is originally from Jamaica. Tamo’s inspiration for the product stems from his grandfather’s stories of when he used to run his rum business, using a horse drawn sugar cane mill and rum bar, back in the late 1940’s. Rum is a staple drink of Jamaica and these 250 ml cans of various flavours, pulls a punch, at 4.5% vol. They are currently stocked in over 200, Co-op stores, but sadly only one in Wales, which is Lampeter. The company are trying to branch into Wales and are looking for wholesalers, bars, and restaurants. Jamaican Rum Vibes attended the UK Black Business show, to find more distributors and to bask in the Black excellence that the event offers. We had a fantastic time, speaking with many of the entrepreneurs present. But these were just some of our favourites. A truly inspiring day and great connections were made. Let’s hope UK Black business show comes to Wales.
